Like abnormal cell changes, early stage of cancer may produce no symptoms at all. The commonest symptom is irregular vaginal bleeding, which include vaginal bleeding:

  • between periods (the tumour can bleed easily)
  • during or after sex (post-coital vaginal bleeding because the tumour is friable)
  • even after menopause

Other symptoms include:

  • vaginal discharge with foul smell
  • pelvic pain, backache (due to involvement of nerve or bone)
  • blood in urine or pain on passing urine (due to involvement of urinary system)
  • leg swelling (due to involvement of lymphatic system)
  • general malaise and weight loss

Please note that the presence of any of above symptoms does not necessarily mean you have cervical cancer. They could be the presenting features of some commoner and benign conditions. Therefore, you should consult a doctor if you develop symptoms of any kind
