Introduction
With the aim to increase the public¡¦s knowledge on cervical screening
and participation in the Cervical Screening Programme, a series
of roving exhibition were organized at 16 sites (Appendix 1) of
Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories from August to December
2004 to promote prevention of cervical cancer and introduce the
Cervical Screening Programme. During the exhibitions, 732 women
were successfully interviewed and their responses to the questionnaire
survey were collected. Data obtained from the these women were analyzed
and the results are as follows.

Among the 732 women interviewed, 695 women (94.9%) were at
the age range of 25-64. Chart 1

History of having had cervical smears |

Among the 732 women interviewed, 521 women (71.2%) had ever
had cervical smears.

For the remaining 211 women who did
not indicate a history of cervical smear, 160 women (75.8%)
said that they would like to have cervical smears, 32 women
(15.2%) said that they would not. Chart

Among the 160 women who would like to have cervical smears,
over 60% said that the reason was having visited the roving
exhibition, other reasons included: cervical smear could prevent
cervical cancer, they felt a need, cervical smear was useful,
they could be assured and had their health protected. (9.4%).

Among the 32 women who would not like to have cervical smears,
over 60% of them indicated that their reason was 'not yet

Among the 521 women who had ever had cervical smear, 100
of them (19.2%) had registered with CSIS. Chart

Among the remaining 421 women, 318 (75.5%) of them indicated
that they would like to register with CSIS. The reasons included:
could have a reminder letter to remind of the next test (48.4%),
had visited the exhibition (38.1%) and could view the smear
results in the CSIS website using the Internet (19.8%). Chart

Among the 732 women interviewed, 649 women (88.7%) indicated
that they would like to encourage their relatives and friends
to register with CSIS. Chart 7

Among the 649 women who would like to encourage their relatives
and friends to register with CSIS, nearly half of them (43.3%)
said that their reason was because of the exhibition, the
others would like their relatives and friends to receive reminder
letters reminding them of the next test (39.3%), to view the
smear results in the CSIS website using the Internet (18.2%),
and to help doctors trace previous smear results (12.5%).

Opinion on Exhibition |

In general, visitors were satisfied with the exhibition and
opined that this kind of health promotion activity was good
to the public. Women could have more understanding on cervical
cancer and importance of cervical screening. 91.0% of women
interviewed indicated that the overall contents were useful
or very useful. The contents were also quite detailed and
clearly presented. Contents related to treatment and after-care
of cervical cancer were suggested.

75.9% of women interviewed indicated
that the design of the exhibition was attractive or very attractive.
It was suggested that demonstration with model of body parts
would increase attractiveness. |

Some visitors would like to have
more sites for the exhibition, have exhibitions regularly and
during weekends and public holidays. Some suggested organizers
to distribute leaflets to publicize the exhibition. |

Some visitors gave feedback that
workers in the exhibition were sincere, attentive, friendly,
polite and explained the details with patience. Visitors appreciated
that nurses gave explanations and professional advices on the
exhibition sites. |

Some visitors found that the souvenirs
were pleasant and very interesting. |

| III. |
Conclusion
The roving exhibition of the Cervical Screening Programme in 2004
received support from visitors to the exhibition. The opinion and
suggestions from visitors and the results of the questionnaire survey
would be useful reference for future publicity activities. The Cervical
Screening Programme would continue to promulgate the message that
¡¥regular cervical smears can help prevent cervical cancer¡¦ to women
