The Smoking (Public Health) (Amendment) Bill 2005 was passed into
law by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong SAR on 19 Oct 2006.
According to the amendment ordinance, smoking will be prohibited
in the vast majority of indoor areas of workplaces and public places,
such as restaurants, office, schools, hospitals, markets, karaokes
and bars with effect from 1 January 2007. Six types of "qualified
establishments" such as night clubs and mahjong parlors may
implement the smoking ban by 1 July 2009 the latest.
As smoking, whether first hand or second hand, is one of the risk
factors for cervical cancer, Cervical Screening Programme fully
supports the amendment ordinance and would advise the public to
avoid or give up smoking.

cervical cancer, please click here.
