Cervical Screening Programme is an organized screening programme to facilitate regular cervical smears for all women at risk of cervical cancer. In Hong Kong, cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. In order to achieve the ultimate aim of reducing the incidence and mortality due to cervical cancer in women of Hong Kong, the Department of Health launched a territory-wide Cervical Screening Programme in March 2004 in collaboration with other health care professionals to facilitate and encourage women to have regular cervical smears. Programme objectives: To raise public awareness on the need for cervical cancer screening; To improve overall coverage of the target population; To promote more equitable and efficient screening across the target population. To build a quality assurance mechanism for better quality screening services in smear-taking, cytological examination, referrals and follow-up management of abnormal smears; and To provide better support to the private sectors and relevant stakeholders
